Aim: The study aims to identify some characteristics and some variations on the occlusal surface of mandibular first molar. Methods: The study included 86 first-year Vietnamese students (45 male and 41 female). Clinical examination was performed and their dental casts were analysed. Results: the occlusal groove pattern V-shaped occupied 77.3 percent, 19.2 percent plus shaped, 3.5 percent X-shaped; appearance rate of C6 was 20.3 percent, C7 was 7.0 percent. Conclusions: The occlusal groove pattern of the mandibular first molar differences between people of different races.
