Shipping companies have been playing an important role in the global economy, especially in marine country like Vietnam. Ships carry more than 80% of the world’s trade in goods. However, the operation of ships emits emissions that cause negative impacts on the environment and the global climate. IMO has been making many efforts to develop a legal and technical framework to control and reduce emissions from ships such as MARPOL Annex VI, IMO’s Ship emission reduction strategy, etc. member countries need to study to apply. Vietnam’s shipping fleet is undergoing positive changes such as younger ship’s age, ship size, ship type, operational capacity, etc. Vietnamese ships are obliged to implement the national strategy as well as the regulations in accordance with the Appendix. VI MARPOL on the prevention of pollution from ship emissions. Therefore, assessing the capability of shipping companies to adapt to the emission reduction strategy from ships is an urgent requirement today.
