Aims: Multislice computed tomography (MSCT) in coronary angiography (CTA) has emerged as a useful imaging technique for non-invasive assessment of coronary artery disease (CAD). Recently, 640-slice MSCT systems were introduced, with a spatial resolution of 0.3 mm and a temporal resolution of 75ms, allowing high-resolution-image acquisition of the entire heart within a single heart beat. The aim of the present study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of 640-slice MSCT in patients with CAD. Methods and results: A total of 50 patients (26 male, mean age 62 +/- 9.9 years) underwent CTA and invasive coronary angiography. All CTA scans were evaluated for the presence of obstructive coronary stenosis by a blinded expert, and results were compared with invasive coronary angiography (ICA). Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values and diagnostic accuracyto detect or = 50 percent luminal stenosis by the level of coronary segment were 85, 97, 91, 96 and 95 percent, while, by the level of patient were 100, 50, 96, 100 and 96 percent, respectively. Moreover, these values to detect or = 70 percent luminal stenosis by the level of coronary segment were 72, 98, 90, 95 and 94 percent, respectively. Conclusion: The current study shows that 640slice CTA is an accurate method in diagnosing and rolling out CAD.
