Self-employed female migrants are increasing significantly in urban areas like Hanoi. Due to long working hours and disadvantaged living condition, they are in high risk for reproductive tract infections. This study was done in Phuc Xa commune, Ba Dinh district, one of communes with highest rate of self-employed female migrants in Hanoi to describe the current knowledge and access to information of RTIs in order to make recommendations for prevention program in local areas. The study employed a cross sectional design and interviewed a total 215 self-employed female migrants in Phuc Xa commune, March to April 2011. Results indicated that most of study subjects had long working hours, low income, poor living conditions. Their knowledge of RTIs are limited, especially knowledge of prevention for RTIs. Due to their mobile status, just a few of them ever received RTIs information while their needs for this information were very high. The most suitable channels to provide health information for this target population are through their network of home-village friends and the local network of landlords. Future intervention should consider developing suitable methods to provide information for self employed female migrants.
