The influence that four food items, guava, pineapple, mango and banana, has on the size of fruit tlies at various stage of development as well as their life cycle, fecundity and hatch ratio at 25°C and humidity 75 percent was investigated. Banana was found to have the most positive influenceon the growth and development of fruit flies. The size of fruit fly eggs, larvae, pupa and adults were largest when fed banana while their life cycle was the shortest (8.61days). The number of eggs and egg hatch ratio were the highest at 317.48 eggs/pair/life cycle and 92.97 percent, respectively.
