Population aging is becoming a social problem threatening global sustainable development. Science and technology development along with national digital transformation is expected to be the "key" that helps to solve this challenge. Based on results from a survey of 256 elderly people in Ho Chi Minh City, the article analyses two issues: the adaptation of the elderly to digital technology (DT) in some aspects, and their attitudes on the roles of DT in ensuring the elderly's life. More than 81 percent of the elderly use modem DT devices and this percentage decreases with age. However, they rarely access and use DT for health care, except some applications for Covid-19 prevention. Elderly people like reading online newspapers, watching movies, and listening to music online, gradually expanding their digital living space, but still love activities in the real world and direct social interaction. In particular, nearly 87 percent of the elderly have an attitude in support of applying DT to improve quality of life, and positively evaluate DT roles in their lives.
