Phu Quy Island has important role and position in marine economic development policy and national security. With these signification, as well as economic development, the conservation of marine resources in Phu Quy is always taken interest by scientists and managers. To perform the marine conservation and biodiversity development, Research Institute for Marine Fisheries (RIMF) carried out 2 field investigation trips in 2010 in order to make scientific bases for establishment of Phu Quy Marine Protected Area (Phu Quy MPA). The research results show that Phu Quy Island has enough conditions to establish species and habitat MPA in state level. These conditions include: the species diversity (1,047 aquatic species); the ecosystem diversity (coral reef, sea-grass, intertidal ecosystem); many breeding grounds; the marine resources diversity and the 'agreeability of local communities and managers in Phu Quy MPA Plan. With these values, the establishment of Phu Quy MP A is very necessary to protect and exploit suitably marine resourcesand biodiversity in Phu Quy.
