The paper investigates the teaching and learning of languages (Vietnamese, Khmer) to Khmer students in An Giang province nowadays. The research results indicate that Khmer students still have difficulty in learning Vietnamese. The teaching of the mother tongue as a elective subject that has not brought satisfactory results. Although the percentage of Khmer primary school students receiving Vietnamese tmining is quite high, almost the same as Vietnamese students, that percentage decreases gradually in the secondary school and falls sharply in the high school due to the different reasons, the "language barrier" is believed to be the main reason which causes Khmer students to be left behind and stop their learning. Based on the analysis of the reasons mentioned above, the paper suggests some practical and more effective solutions to the languages teaching and learning for the Khmer students.
