Hearing loss secondary to ossicular chain abnormalities is common. Objectives: to describe the ossicular characteristics in patients with ossicular chain ankylosis and malformations. Materials and methods: A descriptive case study was conducted in sixtysix patients at the Department of ENT, Bachmai hospital. All patients were evaluated with CT scan of the temporal bone in axial and coronal planes. Results and discussions: Three entities seen were otosclerosis (66.6 percent), ossicular chain malformations (33.3 percent) and tympanosclerosis (0.1 percent). Age range 16 - 45 (57.6 percent) was most common. Male!female ratio was 3/1.2. CT scan demonstrated otosclerotic foci in 31.8 percent (21/66), ossicle defects in 24.2 percent (16/66), thickened stapedial footplate in 27.3 percent (18/66), calcification in 1.5 percent (1/66). CT scan was unable to detect ossicular lesions in 39.4 percent (26/66). Conclusions: Ossicular chain lesions were otosclerosis (66.6 percent), malformations (33.3 percent) and tympanosclerosis (0.1 percent).
