This article points out that Gia Luong commune is one of the rural areas that has undergone severe economic and social changes by the processes of industrialization and modernization. The industrialization and modernization have collided with the traditional economic structure of Gia Luong rural areas. They have shifted unstable development of animal husbandry and aquiculture; unsystematic development of professions; adoption of social evils; and a loss of traditional social capital.
