The many year monthly averaged surface current field in the Vietnam East Sea (VES) is derived from a numerical model. Monthly averaged wind fields for 12 months of the year were computed using Aviation (AVN) global gridded analysis datasets of The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) for the period from Jan 2002 to December 2010. The NCEP AVN gives 6 hourly atmospheric variables at 26 levels for the resolution of 1 degree. The MM5 model was used to interpolate the data for the current computational grid. It was found that the computed current fields in the sea agree well with other research results.
