Gastrointestinal bleeding is a common medical / surgical emergency at Bach Mai hospital, it is essential to study the need for blood products in this patient groups to help with blood banking, as well as to have a backup plan to provide blood in a timely manner. Objectives: to determine the percentage of ABO blood group and the current state of blood products usage among patients with gastrointestinal bleeding with blood at Bach Mai Hospital in the period of 2020 - 2022. Subjects: 1,490 patients with gastrointestinal bleeding were treated at Bach Mai Hospital from 06/2020 to 06/2022. Research method: Cross-sectional description. Results: blood group O: 49,0%; blood group B: 25,4%, blood group A: 20,0% and blood group AB: 5,6%. The percentage of patients with gastrointestinal bleeding receiving blood transfusion accounted for 72,6% of the total number of units of blood products used (5,987), of which the percentage of red blood cells units accounted for 70,0%, the average was 4,1 ± 3,2 units/patient, fresh plasma with 20,8% and mean use of 4,5 ± 4,1 units/patient.
