Objective: To evaluate dysphagia in acute stroke patients without ir.tubation. Methods: 42 patients diagnosed for acute stroke admitted to Emergency Department from 4/2009 to 9/2009. Results: the proportion of dysphagia in the first day and third day was 64.3 percent and 54.8 percent, respectively. 12/26 patients with Glasgow score of 15 point and 15/16 patients with Glasgow score of 10 to 14 point had dysphagia. 100 percent patients with dysphagia had cranial nerve paralysis. The proportion of dysphagia in ischemic stroke and haemorrhage stroke was 16/27 and 11/27, respectively. Conclusion: Dysphagia was very common in acute stroke patients. Dysphagia was related to consciousness (p 0.05) and cranial nerve paralysis (p 0.001). There was no relation between dysphagia and the type of stroke.
