In this review article, the trends of nutritional status of Hochiminh city population and key contributors during the last 25 years were reviewed. The available data showed that the overall nutritional status of Hochiminh city population has been improved. The prevalence of underweight among children under five years in Hochiminh city has dramatically declined over the pas 25 years and to date it has remained the lowest rate in the country in all three types of malnutrition: underweight, stunting and wasting (4.1 percent, 6.7 percent, and 2.7 percent, respectively, in 2013). Some severe clinical micronutrient deficiencies have been eradicated, such as xerophthalmia, goiters... Key contributors of these achievements include: proper nutrition interventions particularly nutrition communication and education, a widespread nutrition network from health facilities to community, resource investment of Hochiminh city authorities, social mobilization and multi-sectoral coordination in nutrition activities, supports from the National Institute of Nutrition and especially the pivotal role of a specialized nutrition unit as Nutrition Center.
