This article focuses on the state of affairs in Nam Cao's short stories. It is based on a sample of 800 representational utterances and aims to describe and analyze specific expressions of four components of state of affairs, such as sayer, saying process, receiver, and verbiage. This article also highlights various parts of speech of the receiver and flexible positions of the verbiage in the utterances state of affairs.
