Object: describe pathological characteristics and evaluate the results of the cases with conversion In laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). Patients and methods: a retrospective descitive study on patients had LC and conversion on the dlnlcal and paradinlcal characteristics, per-operative lesions, techmque of cholecystectomy, Inddences, causes of conversion, management and treatment outcomes from 6/2007-6/2013, in Viet-Duc Hospital. Results and discussion: study subjects induded 51 patients (25 male 26 female), mean age: 61.37 + 12.97 (range 32-89 years). 5 patients with a prehistory of abdominal surgery. 51 patients had abdominal pain In the RUQ 21 patients with fever, 8 patients with palpable gallbladder. Ultrasound: enlarged gall bladder (49 patients), the thickened gallbladder wall (33 patients), test: mean WBC count 11087 + 4420/ml, mean total bilirubin 17.64 + 10.53 mmol/L. Per-operativelesions:distendedand edematous gallbladder (41.18 percent), necrosis and the pericholecystic abscess (39.2 percent~ aense and extensive adhesions between gallblaader and the neighboring organs (84.3 percent)... The causes of conversion: Adhesions were among the common reasons for conversion of LC (52.94 percent), acddental injuries of the bile duct (15.69 percent percent ), bleeding (13.73 percent) ... mean time conversion was started In 48.85 + 31.08 minutes (range 10-105 minutes). Results: All 51 patients were discharged, no patients being come home for serious status ana no patients died. Postoperative complications: wound infection (2 patients), postoperative occlusion (lpatient), the average hospital stay was 12.29 + 5.23 days (range 5-30 days).
