Nowadays, many countries all over the world have raised more awareness of developing creative industry. First of all, the creative economy has been very helpful for economic expansion. Creative industry in particular and the creative economy in general make culture a driving force for the econom ic, social and environmental development processes. Last but not least, the creative economy helps to preserve good cultural values. In Indonesia, the cultural industry is growing and is increasingly becoming an important economic sector in the process of economic diversification. In the new direction of development, the branches of the creative economy are expanded to 16 sub-sectors covering all cul turally related industries such as fashion, cinema, music, product design, crafts, media, performing arts, broadcasting, etc. Therefore, with the aim of understanding the role of Java culture in the devel opment of tourism and creative economy in Indonesia, the article has deeply studied economic strate gies in Indonesia related to this field in the past. Throughout the local and foreign studies on the Indonesian economy, the article has outlined the main roles of Java culture in development schemes as well as in the expansion of cultural industries on Java island and overviewed the recent creative eco nomic development trend in Indonesia and the significant contributions of tourism and the creative economy to the Indonesian economy during the 4.0 revolution.
