Banana (Musa) is one of the important fruit crops of the Southern coastal center of Vietnam. The everage yield of banana in the region is still lower than the national everage and compared with the inherent potential in the region. To have a basic for proposing solutions to improve productivity, the research on the status of Moc banana production in Southem coastal center of Vietnam was conducted with the objective is evaluate the potential and identify the limitative factors in banana production of the region. The research selected Khanh Hoa and Binh Dinh provinces to survey, the results have identified the potentials: the soil and climate conditions of the region are appropriate to develop banana productivity in a commodity scale production and banana is bringing the comparative advantages of high economic efficiency compared to other crops on the hilly soil; banana tree occupies a important position in the structure of agriculture production and incomes of local farmers. The cultivated scale of Moc banana's farmer landmark now is in accordance with the current traditional Moc banana market and with labor resources of every households. Beside, the results have also identified the limitations: most of the region's banana are grown on hilly soil with extensive farming menthod, not investment and proper techniqes making affected much in yield's banana by drought in the dry season, the deficit of nutrient minerals, banana growing degenerately by erosion; most of the banana growers lack of information on technical advances in banana cultivation, not aware of investment efficiency for intensive banana.
