In the context of the complicated development of the global COVID-19 pandemic, health organizations have authorized the use of several safe and effective vaccines to prevent the disease. However, the uneven distribution of vaccination rates among countries and regions makes the vaccination process ineffective. In addition, the Delta, and the newest Omicron variant of concern of SARS-CoV-2 with its rapid spread has led to COVID-19 resurgence, even in countries with high vaccination rates. Therefore, the research and finding of effective therapies for COVID-19 is still a necessity. Along with vaccines, a treatment, if approved or authorized, will be a step forward in the fight against the pandemic. This article reviews briefly the development and discovery process of currently available monoclonal antibodies, as well as their safety and effectiveness in the treatment of COVID-19.
