As in many other developing countries in South East Asia, Vietnam is now experiencing far-reaching changes associated with continued rapid economic and social development. In the case of Vietnam, these have accelerated as an ongoing outcome of renovation policies instigated since the latter half of the 1980s. These changes have in turn led to changes in spousal choice of the young generation. the authors find that they have much greater freedom to choose their spouse.
