Objective: Evaluation on some difficulties in sel-inject insulin in elderly diabetic patients. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study performed on 61 type 2 diabetes, diagnosed according to ADA criteria 2012. Results: The mean age was 69.3 +/- 6.3 years old, female/male: 1.44, mean duration of diabetes 6.3 +/- 5.4 years. The proportion of patients with difficulties on remembering the injection steps, orientation of injection, tremor during injection, fear of injection were 73.8 percent; 70.5 percent; 45.9 percent and 31.1 percent, respectively. Patients with MMSE or = 24 accounted for 78.3 percent, 100 percent of patients with normal MMSE scores had good injection skills (p 0.01). Patients with difficulty to remember the insulin injection steps also had difficulty in insulin self-inject. No association between self-inject insulin with age, duration of diabetes, duration of hypertension, BMI. Conclusion: Evaluating the possibility of self-injection of elderly diabetic patients should be performed routinely when initiating insulin therapy in order to have suitable guidance on injection method.
