Extraction, quantitative analysis and pharmacological properties of water-soluble polysaccharides from "lingzhi" Ganoderma lucidum (Leyss ex. Fr.) Karst. cultivated in Thua Thien Hue were studied. The yield of the dried solid product extracted was 4.57 + or - 0.18 percent (P = 0.95; n =3), which contained 86.00 + or - 0.53 percent (P = 0.95; n =6) of pure polysaccharides. Experimentally, at the dose of 94.45g extract/kg body weight of mouse, the extracts showed no acute toxicity. At the dose of 647 mg extract/kg body weight of mouse, the total extracts of polysaccharides showed no antioxidant activity, but helped protect the liver cells, inhibited the increase in activity of rerum ALT, AST enzymes and bilirubin content in mouse by 55.78 percent, 51.72 percent and 7.07 percent (p 0.05), respectively.
