Hội thoại là một bộ phận quan trọng trong quá trình giao tiếp. Để cuộc hội thoại thành công, người tham gia giao tiếp phải đạt sự cân bằng trong lượt lời. Điều đó có nghĩa là họ không chỉ là người nói tích cực mà còn là người nghe tích cực nhằm duy trì và phát triển quá trình giao tiếp. Vì vậy, để đạt hiệu quả trong giao tiếp cần phải biết lựa chọn chiến lược lịch sự phù hợp để tránh cho cuộc hội thoại kết thúc đột ngột và giúp kéo dài nó lâu hơn.

Conversation is an important part of the communication process. In order to have a successful conversation, participants must achieve a workable balance of contributions. That is to say, they should be not only active speakers but also active listeners to maintain and develop the communication process. Therefore, communicating effectively requires not only participants' knowledge of the language such as grammar, vocabulary, etc .. , they also need to know how to choose suitable politeness strategies to avoid sudden breakdown and keep conversations longer. This paper aims at investigating the use of positive politeness strategies for maintaining conversations for freshmen at University of Finance and Accountancy, raise their difficulties in the choice of positive politeness strategies in conversation maintenance and put forward some teaching and learning activities to improve their skills of using positive politeness strategies in conversations as well.
