The study of the bacterial colonization of central venous catheters (CVC) on 69 patients treated in the ICU of the No.108 Hospital was based on some variables such as the rates of bacterial colonization on the hub, local sites and tips of catheters at the time of catheter removal as well as the relations between these rates an~ the duration of catheter as well as sites of catheter placement. The results were that the highest rate of colonization was on catheter sites (23.2 percent), an then on the hub (8.7 percent) and tips (7.2 percent) of catheters. These rates were increasing along with the duration of catheters.
