Study was done to assess effect of pyrophosphate ferrous (SaFe) combined with Difructose Anhydrate III (DFA III) to improving IDA. Total of 126 subjects who met criteria were selected. Subjects were randomly devided into 3 groups as following: taking SaFe +DFA III tablets, taking sulfate ferrous tablets (FeSO4), and taking placebo tablets every day within 6 months. Assessment surveys were done before intervention (TO), after 2 months (T2), after 4 months (T4), and after 6 months (T6), with following indicators: Hb, serum ferritin (SF), Transferin Receptor (TfR), and body iron (BI). Results showed that: Hb, SF, Bllevels increased and TfR level decreased from TO to T6 in SaFe + DFA III group and FeSO4 group, while there were not similar changes in control group. SaFe + DFA III group had better effect to improving IDA and fewer side- effect compared to FeSO4 group. Thus, SaFe + DFA III tablet is potential product for control IDA in community.
