This study evaluated the model of classification, collection, and treatment of food waste by organic composting method in rural areas in Hau Giang province. The research conducted (1) survey on weight of waste types, including food waste, (2) interviewing 30/90 households participating in the model about the acceptance of garbage classification and collection, and (3) analysis of compost samples from food waste in compost boxes after 90 days of incubation. The results showed that food waste generated was low (0.113 kg/person/day), but accounted for the highest proportion with 65.5% of the total amount of domestic waste. Food waste has not been classified thoroughly because after being reclassified for the food waste group, the rate of real food waste was only 91.5%. The quality of compost with pHH20, organic matter, K2O, Zn, Pd, Cd, and Hg was met to standard 10TCN 526:2002 for microbial organic fertilizers produced from domestic solid waste; but total nitrogen, P2O5, and density of Samonella did not meet standard 10TCN 526:2002 and these need to be studied for improvement.
