Nowadays the pharmaceutical industry is interested in searching tor new natural products possessing valuable bioactivities with fewer side eflects. This study aims to screen for antioxidant effect of plants collected from certain areas in Central Vietnam. The scientific names of collected plants were identified and the specimens were extracted using methanol. The antioxidant activities of dried extracts were evaluated using DPPH and ABTS free radical scavenging assays, and ferrous ion chelation assay. The samples possessing the strongest scavenging effect were QT61, QT77, QT90, QT92, QT95, and QT97. Most notably, QT77, Ailanthus triphysa (Dennst.) Alston., showed the strongest effect on DPPH with the ED50 value of 2.99 ug/ml and QT61, Acalypha hispida Burm.f., displayed the strongest activity toward ABTS with the ED50 value of 0.01 ug/ml. These results will open up prospects for finding new natural compounds that possess antioxidant activity.
