The article discusses the current situation of ESP training to civil engineering students at the University of Transport and Communications (UTC) and identifies problems concerning time of teaching, student levels, ESP syllabus design, teaching materials and methods, and training results. Thereafter recommendations for ESP syllabus design, teaching and assessing methods are put forwards for the improvement of teaching ESP to UTC students specialised in transport construction engineering.
