Earth concrete is a new construction material which has several advantages over traditional concrete. In this study, the content of soil used in the range of 10% to 20% (according to the total weight of the mixture of cement, soil, and aggregate). The experimental results show that the workability of both types of earth concrete is lower than that of the control concrete. Moreover, the higher the soil content, the lower the workability. The trend of strength variation of these two types of earth concrete is completely opposite. With the same cement content used, earth concrete using soil with high clay content and particle composition equivalent to fine sand has lower compressive strength than control concrete. In addition, the higher the soil content, the lower the compressive strength of the earth concrete. Earth concrete using soil with low clay content and fine-grained composition (almost equivalent to cement) gives higher compressive strength than control concrete. The results of this study show the feasibility of using earth concrete for construction works in Vietnam.
