Basing on the current worldwide performance in deepwater oil and gas exploitation, and aiming to meet the demand of preparing to exploit hydrocarbon in Vietnam deepwater areas, the Scientific Research Project KC.09.15/06-10 (of the National Research Program of Marine Science and Technology KC.09.15/06-10) managed by National University of Civil Engineering and developed mainly by institute "ICOFFSHORE", studied to select some types of offshore structures appropriate to deepwater condition of Vietnam sea. Research results of the Project were partly transferred to production (JV. Vietsovpetro,), gave publication of 8 papers, trained 2 PhD candidates, of them there was one defending successfully doctoral thesis in Belgium, 10 masters, and there was one special innovation registered at the Intelligent Property Department (Ministry of Science and Technology).
