Gas Chromatography - Electro - antennogram Detector (GC - EAD) and GC - Mass Spectrometry (GC - MS) analyses of the pheromone extract and authentic standards showed that the sex pheromone of Prays sp. was (Z) - 7 - tetradecenal (Z7 - 14:Ald). In field conditions a trap baited with a rubber septum including doses of Z7 - 14:Ald from 0.1 - 1 mg captured more males than a trap baited with four virgin females, in which the one mg dose of Z7 - 14:Ald was most attractive. Single addition of (Z) - 7 - tetradecenyl acetate (Z7 - 14:0Ac) or (Z) - 7 - tetraden - 1 - 01 as minor components did not effect on the attraction, while the presense of both compounds in the lure inhibited the attractiveness of Z7 - 14:Ald.
