MARPOL Annex VI sets out the requirements for the sulfur content of any fuel oil used onboard ships. Since 2015 the sulfur content has been permitted the use on Emission Control Areas that is 0,10% and the global sulfur cap is forseen to be reduced to 0,50% by 2020. However, the study results and paractical use of low sulfur fuels have been showed that the lubrication characteristics of fuel is poor not only sulfur content but also the kinematic viscosity, fractional compotion, and mechanical impurites, etc. The author conductd a separated assessment of their infulences on the lubrication ability of fuel. The study results showed that the sulfur content, kinematic viscosity and temperature fractional distillation 50% have been influenced on the lubrication fuels.
