In terms of the word system in the language, along with nouns and adjectives, verbs are also classified as one of three basic words. The nature of verbs in general, and of motion verbs in particular, is expressed in terms of grammar and semantics through the ability to combine type words with syntactic functions to create their semantics. Talmy is considered to be the one who laid the first foundations in the field of study of motion verbs in language. The theoretical foundations set forth by Talmy have proved useful in analyzing and explaining the formation of sequences of motion predicate structures in different types of languages. In this paper, from the perspective of Talmy’s theory of motion, we use the linguistic descriptive method to analyze in order to gain a deeper understanding of the grammatical and semantic features of the sequence of motion verbs in the language. The research results of the article, in addition to providing more evidence for confirming the meaning of the theory proposed by Talmy, can also be used for teaching Vietnamese and Japanese as a foreign language.
