Cambodia entered a period of recovery and development after national general elections in 1993. In addition to reforms aimed at liberalizing the economy, the Cambodian government has introduced policies to develop and restructure economic sectors to increase the contribution of the industry, con struction, and service sectors. In addition, Cambodia has strived to diversify production and business activities within each economic sector. Overall, Cambodia’s economic structure has undergone a rela tively rapid transformation with the increasing share of industry, construction, and services in the gross domestic product (GDP), and the growing labor and employment shift from agriculture to services and industry, thereby contributing to the fundamental improvement in socioeconomic conditions of local people. However, the development and structural transformation of Cambodia’s economic sectors have revealed limitations in terms of the degree of diversification in each economic sector, value added of products, scale of agricultural production, linkages between industry and agricultural sectors, and the development of banking and financial services.
