After success of the August Revolution of 1945, together with the national construction, the Vietnamese library career has constantly developed and got many achievements. The article analyzes achievements of the Vietnamese library career during the period 1945-2015 on such aspects as system of legal documents and development policies for the library career, Vietnamese library network, state management on libraries, library staff, and international cooperation in the library field; some limitations on operation of libraries in Viet Nam currently. From those points, the author proposes some directions for the development of the Vietnamese library career in the next 5 years.
