The purpose of this study was to evaluate liver lesio~s in dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). The results showed that the most common clinical manifestations were fever (100 percent), headache, anorexia, nausea (98.7 percent), muscles and joints pain (96.1 percent), hemorrhage (73.5 percent), skin rash (51.6 percent) and platelets 100 g/L, hematocrit 43 percent (84.5 percent and 28.4 percent respectively). The spectrum of hepatic manifestations are hepatic tenderness (14.5 percent), hepatomegaly (3.2 percent) and jaundice (1.9 percent). Liver function tests showed elevated aspartate transaminase (AST) and alanine transaminase (ALT) (68.4 percent and 53.9 percent respectively), bilirubin (7.5 percent), reduced serum albumin (0.6 percent), prolonged prothrombin time (9.9 percent), reduced Fibrinogen (37 percent) and prolonged APTT (15.7 percent). In severe DHF group, AST, ALT enzymes and bilirubin levels were elevated significantly when compared with DHF group and DHF with warning signs group. In conclusion, there were hepatic dysfunction in DHF, specifically in severe DHF. There is a need to continue to study hepatic dysfunction to support prognosis.
