This study examines the process of synthesizing bakelite resin from cashew nut shell liquid applied to the surface of sheet molding compound (SMC). This study’s results show that the synthetic Bakelite material has a high thermal stability up to 425.39°C. This thermal stability was determined by the differential heat method. In addition, when the synthetic Bakelite material was coated on the surface of SMC with an appropriate ratio (3%), a material with low abrasion (low mass loss) was obtained. It demonstrates the effectiveness of synthetic Bakelite materials made from cashew nut shell liquid.
