During recent years, rice production in the Red river Delta have achieved considerable progress due to application of advanced technologies with emphasis on using high - yielding varieties imported from China and transition of cropping pattem. However, parallel with these technologies, the pest situation is challenging the sustainable rice production, especially since 2009 when Whitebacked planthopper (WBPH) is causing direct damage to rice and indirect damage by transmitting Southern rice black-streaked dwarf virus disease (SRBSDV). Therefore, management of the vector insects to prevent expansion of SRBSDV is very important. Before presence of WBPH Cruiser Plus 312.5FS and Enaldo 40FS can be used for seed treatment. In the young stages of rice when the new nymphal generation is present, Elsin 10EC, Oshin 20WG, Dantotsu 16WSG, and in the later stages Elsin 10EC, Penalty gold 50EC or Alika 10EC can be used for controlling WBPH.
