Objective: To identify food patterns and their associations with lifestyles and nutrient intakes of adolescents in Hochiminh City. Methods: Data from the fifth year of a cohort study conducted between 2004 and 2009 were used. Principal component analysis was applied. Chi-square or ANOVA test were used to compare the differences in overweight/obesity rates, physical activity, time spent for TV watching/day and mean of energy intake and nutrient intake among quantities of food scores. Results: High correlation was found between food scores from the "high fat and sugar" food group and energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate intakes while this can found with fibre and vitamin intake from the "healthy" food group. There were differences in mean of nutrient intakes as well as the percentage of overweight/obesity, percentage of children speneding sufficiently active time among quartiles of food scores. Conclusion: Nutrition interventions should focus on child characteristics such as overweight/obesity status, physical activity status.
