Paraquat (PQ) is one of the herbicides that are used worldwide. Scientists have suggested that PQ induces dopaminergic neurons loss selectively on substantia nigra (SN) that leading the characteristics of Parkinson's disease. PQ damages nervous system through oxidative stress. It is necessary to create the model of oxidative stress - induced injury, and in particular the model of dopaminergic neurotoxicity. This model will be a great contribution to medicinal selection and treatment. For that reason, the authors performed this thesis to explore initially the model of chronic dose Paraquat - Induced dopaminergic degeneration through oxidative stress. Subsequently, the authors examined the antioxidant effect of Passiflora edulis Sims. full leaf extract on this model. The results showed that 10 mg/kg of Paraquat induced dopaminergic system damage, which was prevented by 500 or 1000 mg/kg of full leaf extract.
