On the ancient maps, in the voyage diary, or in the works of the world geography and history long time ago, specific records on Vietnam's islands were already made. This article aims at studying these notes in materials published in English from the eighteenth century to the mid-nineteenth century so as to provide more awareness of the world of the sea, coastal islands, as well as two offshore archipelagos of Vietnam, Paracels and SpratIys. If those are well exploited they will be invaluable materials for research and confirmation of the Vietnam's territorial sovereignty.
