From the roots of Codonopsis pilosula (Franch) Nannf. (Campanulaceae), a new mono-n-butyl malate, besides the known compounds dimethyl malate, n-butyl-alpha-D-fructofuranoside, n-butyl-Beta-D-fructofuranoside, syringin and adenosine were isolated. Their structures have been identified by MS, 1H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy.
