This work was carried out to understand effects of grafting on survival rate and growth of grafted branches of multi-purpose species (Castanopsis pirifonnis), distribution in the Central Highland. There were two ages of grafted branches as young and middle ages, combined with three grafting methods, three age classes of mother trees and two grafting season. The treatments were tri-plicate and there were 30 grafted branches used in each replicate. The results indicated that after grafting 120 days, grafting methods and age of grafted branches had significant effects on the survival rate of grafted branches. Grafting method had highest survival rate of 68.7 percent and lowest of 33.3 percent using buds for grafting. Young grafted branches resulted in lower survival rate (36.7 percent) compared to middle-aged branches (66.7 percent). Using middle-aged branches and grafting in autumn resulted in highest survival rate (68.9 percent). Grafting method and season had significant effects on growth of grafted branches, while age of mother trees and branches had no significant effects.
