A new technology based on chlorophyll fluorescence measurement that has been developed as HarvestWatchTM, for dynamic low-oxygen controlled atmosphere storage was tested on the Greenstar apple. The objective of this study was to develop appropriate models that can identify the dynamic behavior of apple fruits concerning chlorophyll fluorescence. In order to achieve this objective mathematical models were proposed to characterize the dynamic behavior of apples responding to the stress environments. Regression models were suggested to fit the experimental data to express the dependency of the change in chlorophyll fluorescence signal (Delta Falpha) on stress level. ARX linear models were proposed to predict the chlorophyll fluorescence signal (Falpha) when apples were in stress conditions. The results showed that HarvestWatchTM system can be developed to maintain maximum quality of apple fruits using dynamic low-oxygen controlled atmosphere storage.
