Background: It is well known from animal and clinical studies that cerebrovascular diseases can alter cardiovascular and autonomic function. Stroke has been shown to produce changes in autonomic function, increase the incidence of cardiac arrhythmias and cause myocardial damage. The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of electrocardiography (ECG) in acute stroke patients and the differential effects of stroke localization on autonomic function parameters assessed by the heart rate, QTc. Methode: Description of ECG manifestations in 116 patients with acute stroke and the relationship between the changes of ECG with the local of stroke as well as the kind of the stroke. Results: 116 patients with acute stroke included 78 patients suffering from ischemic stroke and 38 patients with haemorrhagic stroke. There were 62 percent of patients having abnormal ECG including atrial fibrilation - 6 percent; Synus tachycardia - 29.3 percent; Block A-V - 9.5 percent; Intraventricular conduction block - 8.6 percent; Long QTc duration - 69 percent; ECG having the changes of ischemic heart deseased by 29.3 percent and of hypertensive heart deseased by 33.6 percent. The patients with stroke on the right hemisphere had more autonomic abnormalities in ECG than the others local in the brain.
