Synthesizing nanosilver from Dioscorea hamiltonii extract and exploring its possibility to catalyze oxidation-reduction reaction

This study explores the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (DH-AgNPs) from Dioscorea hamiltonii extract. The formation of DH-AgNPs is optimized for reaction conditions to obtain the best colloidal solutions at 2.0 mM AgNO3, 4:1 (AgNO3:DH) (v/v), 90°C, 270 min, respectively. Spectroscopic, microscopic techniques, and thermogravimetric analysis methods were used to examine the characteristics of the biosynthesized DH-AgNPs. In addition, the analysis techniques, such as FT-IR, SEM, DLS, EDX, TGA, and UV-Vis were used. The obtained data confirmed that DH-AgNPs has a spherical shape with a size of 178 nm and 16% mass. Moreover, the catalytic activity of HD-AgNPs was demonstrated through the reduction of nitrophenols and degradation of color organic dyes indicated by the decrease of absorbance.
