Sáng tác của Murakami Haruki thường mang tính ẩn dụ, gợi sự liên tưởng đến các chủ đề trong những câu chuyện huyền thoại của Nhật Bản và phương Tây. Nhà văn đã sử dụng sáng tạo các cổ mẫu để truyền đạt những thông điệp tư tưởng của mình. Hang là một trong số các cổ mẫu quan trọng, được nhà văn thường xuyên vận dụng để xây dựng không gian trong tiểu thuyết. Thông qua cổ mẫu hang, Murakami không chỉ thể hiện cách nhìn của ông về mô hình cấu tạo thế giới – không gian sống của con người, mà còn truyền tải tư tưởng về một thế giới tinh thần sâu kín và đa diện của con người hiện đại. Vận dụng phương pháp phê bình cổ mẫu và huyền thoại học cổ mẫu, bài viết hướng đến mục tiêu chỉ ra sự đa dạng của các dạng thức hang và khám phá những ý nghĩa sâu sắc mà cổ mẫu này gợi ra trong tiểu thuyết Murakami, qua khảo sát một số tác phẩm tiêu biểu: Xứ sở kì diệu bạo tàn và chốn tận cùng thế giới, Biên niên kí chim vặn dây cót, 1Q84 và Giết chỉ huy đội kị sĩ.

Murakami Haruki's works are often metaphorical, evoking themes in Japanese and Western myths. He creative use of archetypes to convey the messages. The cave is one of the important archetypes, often used by writers to build space in the novels. Through the cave archetype, Murakami not only expresses his view of the structural model of the world where the human live, but also conveys the ideas of a deep and multi-faceted spiritual world of man in modern society. Applying the mythological criticism and archetypal criticism, the article aims to point out the diversity of cave forms and explore the meanings that this archetypal evokes in Murakami's novels, through examine some typical novels by Murakami such as: Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, 1Q84 and Killing Commendatore.
