Research aims to examine the prevalence and correlates of doctor attitudes toward insulin therapy. Data are from surveys of 112 physicians and endocrinologist in Bach Mai hospital, National Geriatric hospital, Friendship hospital, National Endocrinology hospital. The results showed that 23.4 percent of the total number of doctors surveyed was resistant to use insulin in treating their diabetic patients. In contrast, most general internal doctor (34.7 percent) delay insulin therapy until absolutely necessary, but specialists are less likely to do so (2.6 percent). Experi~nced doctors, those over 40 years old (4.3 percent) or having more than 10 years of experience (10.3 percent), were less resistant in using insulin to treat their patients. Delay of insulin therapy is significantly Iess likely when physicians view insulin as more efficacious, have experience on insulin use, have available insulin pump or insulin and divice. Main barriers are the lacks of experience on insulin therapy, insulin and devices availability, hypoglycemia side effect.
