The study was conduct to evaluate effect and clinical safety of electro-acupuncture combined with point injection of Methycobal on motor function recovery in pediatric patients after acute phase of encephalitis. After eight weeks of treatment in the study group, 16 cases were completely recovered (accounting for 53.33 percent) and the others only with slight degree of paralysis; in control group, 8 cases were completely recovered (26.67 percent) and the others only with slight degree of paralysis; average Orgogozo scale in treatment group was 34.34 +/- 6.95, higher than the control group of 20.00 +/- 6.67 (p 0.05). No side effect in clinical appearance and paraclinical indicators were observed. In conclusion, electrical acupuncture combined with point injection of Methycobal produced positive effect on motor function recovery in pediatric patients after acute phase of encephalitis without undesirable side effect after 8 weeks of treatment.
