Stress measurement in the soil environment plays an important role in construction design as well as its safety assessment. Currently, stresses in the soil environment are measured by soil stress tranducers. Although there are numerous manufacturers of soil stress tranducer in the world, the price is relatively high. In addition, most of these devices can only measure the total stress but can not determine effective stress. This paper aims at presenting the processes of researching, manufacturing as well as calibrating the stress tranducers in the soil environment, which use strain gauges to determine the values of effective and total stresses.
